Roofing questions, honestly answered

Quotes & pricing

Do you charge for quotes?

No. Estimates and advice are completely free and there is no obligation to go ahead.

How much does a roof repair cost?

It depends on the problem, the roof and the access needed. A slipped tile is very different from a chimney rebuild. We will inspect and give you a clear, fixed written price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

Why do roofing quotes vary so much?

Quotes differ in materials, whether scaffolding, waste removal and timber repairs are included, and whether the work meets current standards like BS 5534. Ours are itemised so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

For small repairs, no. For larger projects like re-roofs, we will explain any staged payment terms clearly in your written quote.

How quickly can you give me a quote?

Call or WhatsApp us. We aim to arrange a visit quickly and send your quote promptly after. For simple jobs, photos can sometimes get you a rough idea straight away.

Trust & insurance

Are you insured?

Yes. All our work is fully insured. We are happy to show proof of our public liability insurance before we start.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. We stand behind our work. Ask us about the guarantee for your specific job and we will confirm it in writing with your quote.

How do I know you will not over-sell me work?

We will show you photos of any problems we find so you can see them for yourself, and we will tell you if a repair will do instead of a replacement.

Do you use subcontractors?

Your job is carried out by our own skilled team, so you know who is on your roof.

During the work

Do I need to be home while you work?

Not necessarily. For external work we just need access to the outside of the property. We agree arrangements with you beforehand.

What happens if it rains during a re-roof?

We watch the forecast closely and never leave a roof open overnight. Exposed areas are protected and sheeted so your home stays dry.

Will you need scaffolding?

Most roof work needs scaffolding for safety, and to meet the law. For some small repairs we may be able to use other safe access. Scaffolding is included in your quote, so there are no hidden extras.

Do you clean up afterwards?

Always. We protect your property during the job and remove all waste and debris when we finish.

Do I need to tell my neighbours?

It is polite to let them know, especially if scaffolding may sit near a shared boundary. For terraced and semi-detached houses we will talk you through anything that affects next door.

Roof problems

How do I know if my roof needs replacing or just repairing?

Widespread slipped tiles, perished underlay, rusted nails and recurring leaks point to replacement. Isolated damage usually just needs a repair. We will give you an honest assessment.

How long does a roof last?

As a rough guide, concrete tiles last around 50 years and clay tiles and natural slate can last much longer. Felt flat roofs last far less than modern rubber or GRP systems. Underlay, battens and fixings often fail before the tiles themselves.

Is moss bad for my roof?

Heavy moss holds moisture, can lift tiles and blocks gutters. A little is cosmetic. A thick build-up is worth dealing with before it causes problems.

What should I do if my roof is leaking right now?

Put a bucket under the drip, move valuables, and if water is near light fittings switch off the electrics on that circuit. Then call us on 07348 481011.

What is BS 5534?

BS 5534 is the British Standard for slating and tiling. Since its 2015 revision, all ridge, hip and verge tiles must be mechanically fixed, not held by mortar alone. All our work follows it.

Areas & availability

Which areas do you cover?

We are based near Dover and cover East Kent, including Deal, Folkestone, Canterbury, Sandwich, Ramsgate, Margate, Broadstairs, Hythe, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Faversham and the villages in between.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes. Alongside domestic work, we can help with landlords, letting agents and small commercial properties. Get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes. If your roof has been damaged or is letting water in, call us and we will do our best to get to you quickly to make it safe.
