Rebuilt red brick chimney stack with new lead flashing on a grey tiled roof
In short

Dryridge Roofing & Building provides chimney rebuilds & repointing across Dover, Deal, Folkestone, Canterbury and the rest of East Kent. Chimney stacks take the full force of the weather. Every job starts with a free survey and a fixed written quote.

Chimney stacks take the full force of the weather. Over time the mortar erodes, bricks spall, flaunching cracks and lead flashings fail. That leads to damp chimney breasts, leaks, and in the worst cases a stack that becomes unsafe.

We repoint and repair chimneys, rebuild unstable stacks brick by brick, renew flaunching and lead flashing, and fit pots, cowls and caps. If you no longer use your chimney, we can take it down below the roof line and tile over it.

Signs you need chimney rebuilds & repointing

  • Eroded, missing or crumbling mortar between bricks
  • Spalling (flaking) or cracked bricks
  • A leaning stack, or cracks running through it
  • Damp or staining on the chimney breast inside
  • Lifted or split lead flashing where the stack meets the roof
  • Cracked flaunching (the mortar cap on top around the pots)

Your chimney rebuilds & repointing options

Repointing

Old mortar raked out and repointed to protect the brickwork for years to come.

Full rebuild

Unsafe stacks taken down and rebuilt in matching or new brick with new flashings.

Lead flashing

New lead aprons, step flashings and back gutters dressed to keep water out.

Caps, cowls & removal

Pots capped or cowled to stop rain and birds, or stacks removed entirely.

How we work

  1. Inspect

We look at the brickwork, flaunching, pots and flashing, and check for damp inside.

Proper scaffolding or chimney access for safe, quality work.

  3. Repair or rebuild

Work carried out using suitable mortar and matched bricks.

  4. Weatherproof

Fresh flaunching and lead flashing finish the stack off watertight.

Why it is worth doing properly

  • Removal frees up space and removes a maintenance headache

Chimney Rebuilds & Repointing: frequently asked questions

How do I know if my chimney needs repointing?

Look for gaps where mortar has eroded between bricks, sandy deposits in gutters, or damp patches on the chimney breast inside. If in doubt, we will inspect it for free.

Should I repair or remove my chimney?

If you do not use the fireplace and the stack needs major work, removal can be the better long-term option. If it adds character or you use it, repair is usually worthwhile. We will give you both options.

Why is my chimney breast damp?

Most often it is failed flashing, cracked flaunching, open pots letting rain in, or porous brickwork. Capping unused flues and renewing the flashing solves most cases.
