Dryridge Roofing & Building provides dry verge systems across Dover, Deal, Folkestone, Canterbury and the rest of East Kent. The verge is the edge of the roof at the gable end. Every job starts with a free survey and a fixed written quote.
The verge is the edge of the roof at the gable end. Traditionally it is finished with mortar, which cracks, falls out and lets water and birds in, often within a few years in an exposed coastal location.
A dry verge system replaces the mortar with interlocking uPVC caps that are mechanically fixed to each row of tiles. It is neat, secure, and keeps water and nesting birds out. You can forget about it once it is on.
Signs you need dry verge systems
- Mortar missing or crumbling along the gable edge
- Mortar debris on paths, patios or in gutters
- Birds nesting in gaps at the edge of the roof
- Loose or rocking tiles at the verge

Dry Verge Systems: frequently asked questions
Is dry verge worth it?
For most homes, yes. You stop paying to repoint verge mortar every few years, and the roof edge is more secure in high winds.
Does dry verge suit every roof?
It suits most concrete interlocking and many plain tile roofs. Some older or listed properties need a traditional finish. We will advise at the survey.
Can dry verge blow off?
Properly fitted dry verge is mechanically fixed to every tile course and battens, so it is designed to stay put in high winds. Problems usually come from poorly fitted systems.
